I found this crib today on our local version of craigslist.  I am so excited, I can’t even explain it!  The lady is only asking 30 bucks for the crib, I’m going to see if she’ll take 20.  I’m crossing my fingers and checking my email for her response ever couple of minutes.  I’m sure at first glance of the over exposed photo, you’re wondering why on earth I would be so excited.  For one thing, I’m not even pregnant, and for another thing, it really doesn’t look all that spectacular, but I have a vision.  Instead of trying to explain my vision, I decided to post a few pictures I’ve collected over a long period of time showcasing  some great ways this tired old crib can be revitalized.  Unfortunately I have just saved the pictures here and there for a long time without a thought of saving the credits, so I’m unsure of where they all came from. I’m sure I got some of them from decorpad, but if you know where I can give credit for the other pics, please let me know.

Do you see where I’m going now?  I love the delicate vintage turned spindles, and with a fresh coat of paint, it will surely be a stunning addition to any nursery!

Ok, I don’t want to cause any type of controversy here, but I think that there are definitely times that “stars” think they can get away with just about whatever they choose.  Unfortunately there are times that the children have to bear the brunt of that load.  Ther are even times that it starts as early as their births.  You may wonder why I am going off on this tangent, and what on earth it has to do with blog, but I am quite taken back by some of the names they have chosen for their kids, here are some of my “favorites”

Frank Zappa/Gail Zappa

Dweezil (son)

Ahmet Emuukha Rodan (son)

Moon Unit (daughter)

Diva Muffin (daughter)

Ok, seriously, would you really want to be named Moon Unit or Diva Muffin.  I don’t even know if I would want those for my pet names!

Shannyn Sossamon / Dallas Clayton

Audio Science (son)

c’mon!

Penn Jillette/Emily Jillette

Moxie CrimeFighter

Okay, I rest my case!

Pearl

I have been thinking about the name Pearl.  To be honest, I am on the fence about it.  It has plummeted off the charts.  Last time I found it ranked was in 2007 and it was in the 900s.  However, if you happen to be considering this name, I thought it would be interesting to know a little bit more about the history of the pearl.

A pearl is truly a thing of beauty. Its subtle elegance is something that no other gemstone can match. These stones use to only be available at the whims of nature. Fortunately, methods have been developed which allow us to cultivate, or culture, these fine treasures, enabling us to enjoy pearls more often.

The method for culturing pearls is actually fairly simple. A small irritant is inserted into the oyster. The oyster then activates its natural defense system and starts to coat the intruder with a layer of nacre. It does this until a full pearl is formed. The entire process, depending on the oyster and size of pearl desired, takes from 2 to 7 years. A common misconception of this process is that a grain of sand is used to “seed” the oyster. While sand can cause a pearl to be formed it is much more likely that a bead, piece of shell, or chunk of tissue was used. These provide more reliable pearls, and pearl shapes, great for pearl necklaces and pearl earrings

So chew on that little irritant and coat it with nacre while you contemplate the name of your own little gem stone:).

The Parent Center list has finally been released for the most popular baby names in 2009.  For now I thought we would take a look at the top ten baby names in 2009, and see how they have changed since 2008.

Girls

2009:  1.  Isabella   2. Emma    3. Olivia     4. Ava    5. Sophia    6. Madison    7. Chloe    8. Abigail    9. Addison     10. Emily

2008:  1. Emma    2.  Sophia    3. Madison    4. Isabella    5. Olivia    6. Ava    7. Madeline    8. Addison    9. Hailey    10. Lily

According to this survey, Chloe, Abigail, and Emily ousted Madeline, Hailey, and Lily.  Isabella also jumped from #4 up to #1 (twilight?  I’m just sayin’).

Now on to the

Boys:

2009: 1. Ethan    2. Jacob   3. Noah    4. Aiden   5. Logan     6. Jackson    7. Jack    8. Ryan   9. Jayden    10. Matthew

2008: 1. Aiden    2. Jayden     3. Ethan     4. Jacob     5. Caden    6. Jackson    7. Noah     8. Jack    9. Logan     10. Matthew

Looks like the only major change with the boys is that Caden dropped out of the list and Ryan popped in.
